Wigs and Toppers for Trichotillomania in Los Angeles

If you live with trichotillomania, you already know how much energy goes into hiding thin spots, choosing hairstyles around them, and worrying about wind, swimming or bright light. A well-fitted human hair wig or topper can take that weight off your shoulders. At our private shop at 8362 W 3rd St in Los Angeles, we fit trich clients every week, in a closed room, with no questions you do not want to answer.

Understanding, Without Judgment

Trichotillomania is a body-focused repetitive behavior, not a habit you simply choose to stop. Our stylists understand that. You do not have to explain how your hair loss happened, and you never have to uncover your head in front of anyone except your stylist. We focus on what you want: to look like yourself, to stop thinking about your hair every minute, and to have a little breathing room while you work on recovery with your therapist or doctor.

A Wig as a Gentle Barrier

Many clients find that a full wig does two jobs. It restores a full head of hair, and it puts a smooth, comfortable layer between their fingers and their own hair. When your hands go to your head, they meet the wig rather than your scalp. We choose caps with a soft, smooth lining and no rough edges that invite picking, and we fit them securely enough that you are not adjusting them all day. Some clients wear the wig most of the day and take it off at home in the evening so the scalp can breathe.

Toppers for Crown and Part Patches

If your pulling is concentrated at the crown or along the part, a human hair topper can cover the area while your own hair frames your face. The key is placing the clips on strong, healthy hair around the patch, never on the thin area itself, so the topper stays secure without adding stress. We color match and cut the topper on you so it disappears into your hair. Browse our human hair toppers before your visit if you like.

Children and Teens With Trich

Trichotillomania often begins in childhood or the early teens, which is exactly when looking different feels hardest. For younger clients we suggest letting them choose the color and length, practicing putting the piece on at home first, and choosing a lighter cap for long school days. A soft wig or small topper can make the school day easier while treatment does its work. Our wigs for children page has more on fitting kids, and parents are always welcome in the room.

When Your Hair Starts Growing Back

Recovery is rarely a straight line, and hair regrowth is uneven. Short regrowth can stand up or look fuzzy among longer hair. We can trim your natural hair so new growth blends in, and switch you from a full wig to a smaller topper as your coverage improves. Many clients keep a wig for difficult weeks and a topper for good ones.

Caring for Your Piece

Human hair wigs and toppers need gentle handling. Wash every 10 to 15 wears with a gentle wig shampoo, condition the lengths, and let the piece air dry on a stand. Brush from the ends upward with a wig brush, and store it on a form so the cap keeps its shape. If you notice wear around the areas your hands reach most, bring it in and we can refresh it.

We also fit sheitels for observant women, and some of our trich clients choose a sheitel-style cap for the extra security.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to explain my hair loss at the fitting?

No. Share as much or as little as you like. Your stylist only needs to see the areas we are covering and hear what you want the result to look like.

Is a wig or a topper better for trichotillomania?

It depends on where and how much hair is missing. A full wig works well for widespread loss and as a barrier. A topper works for crown or part patches when there is enough healthy hair around them for the clips.

Can wearing a wig help me stop pulling?

Some clients find that a smooth wig lining makes it harder to reach their hair, which helps them. A wig is not a treatment, so we recommend using it alongside support from a therapist or doctor.

Do you fit children with trichotillomania?

Yes. We fit children and teens with lighter, smaller caps and let them help choose the style. A parent is always welcome in the private room.

Will a topper damage my hair?

Not when the clips are placed on strong hair and the topper is removed carefully. We show you how to put it on and take it off so it never pulls on regrowth.
