Alopecia is not one condition, and no single wig is right for everyone who has it. A woman with alopecia areata who still has most of her hair needs something entirely different from a woman with alopecia universalis who has none. At Tallie Wigs, every piece is fitted one on one, in person or by video, to the hair loss you actually have.
Every wig we make is 100% human hair, hand selected bundle by bundle, and built for daily wear rather than occasional use.
The types of alopecia we fit for
Alopecia areata
Patchy loss that can come and go. Coverage often needs to work over remaining hair without pulling on it, and the fit has to stay comfortable as patches change.
Alopecia totalis and universalis
Complete loss of scalp hair, and in universalis, body hair including eyebrows and lashes. With no hair underneath to anchor to, cap security and a convincing hairline become the two things that matter most.
Traction alopecia
Loss along the hairline and temples from years of tension. A wig here has to sit without adding more pull to hair that is already fragile, which usually means a lighter cap and a gentler securing method.
Female pattern hair loss
Gradual thinning through the crown and part with the hairline intact. Many women in this category do better with a topper than a full wig, at least at first.
Frontal fibrosing alopecia
A receding hairline with scarring. Because the scalp can be tender and the loss is permanent, comfort against the skin and a natural front edge are the priorities.
Postpartum and stress related shedding
Usually temporary. Many clients want something they can wear through the shedding phase and stop wearing once regrowth is established, which changes what makes sense to spend.
What actually matters in an alopecia wig
- Cap construction. A silk top reads as scalp at the part and is the more natural looking choice up close. A lace top gives you more styling freedom and a lighter feel. Which is right depends on how you part your hair and how much you handle it.
- Security without hair underneath. If you have little or no hair, a wig cannot rely on clips. Grip bands, adjustable straps and a properly measured cap circumference do the work instead.
- Scalp sensitivity. Bare or treated scalps get irritated by rough wefting and heavy caps. Weight and the finish of the interior are worth more attention than most people give them.
- Breathability. A cap you can wear for twelve hours in Los Angeles heat is a different cap from one built for a two hour event.
- A hairline you would not question. This is craft, not a product feature. It comes from how the hair is ventilated at the front and how it is cut to your face.
How a fitting works
We work by appointment only, one client at a time, in a private shop in Los Angeles. Nobody else is in the room. We start with what you want your hair to do for you, look at what you have to work with, and go from there. Most clients find the right piece in one visit.

Insurance and cranial prosthesis
Hair loss from alopecia is a medical condition, and a wig worn for it may be documented as a cranial prosthesis. Many plans reimburse some or all of the cost when the paperwork is correct. We provide an itemized superbill with the standard cranial prosthesis code and our provider NPI so you can submit it to your plan.

Common questions
Will a wig make my hair loss worse?
A properly fitted wig should not. Tension is what damages fragile hair, so if you have traction alopecia or thinning at the hairline, tell us. We fit around it.
Can I wear a wig if I have no hair at all?
Yes. Full loss is one of the most common situations we fit for, and in some ways it is the simplest, because there is no existing hair to blend into.
Should I get a wig or a topper?
If your hairline is intact and the thinning is at the part or crown, a topper usually looks more natural and costs less. If loss is diffuse or advancing, a full wig is the better investment.
How long does a human hair wig last?
With daily wear and proper care, several years. Synthetic pieces do not come close, which is why we do not sell them.
Do you do repairs and restyling?
On Tallie Wigs pieces, yes. We do not service wigs made elsewhere.
